The steps came up in a sewer repair. That is how most of the important things in this city come up.
Excavation has now exposed a monumental stepped pool on the southeastern slope, with coin evidence bracketing construction and use across the first century. The stratigraphy is published; the preliminary report is reproduced below.
What it establishes
A first-century public pool at the right place is significant. It is not, by itself, a confirmation of a healing.
